Christmas present for Polish community in San Francisco
Very well known and respected investigative Polish journalist from
New York City is interested in writing a story about San Francisco
Polonia conflict. His name is Leszek Lechowicz. His best reference
is recent article "Polonijny kretacz" printed in Polish National
Alliance [PNA] Daily: http://www.dziennikzwiazkowy.com/pub.php?id=2168
He is open to meet with both sides of the conflict which surrounds
discrimination over membership in Saint Stanislaus Society, one of
the founding member organization of the Polish Club in San Francisco
together with control of assets Polish community accumulated over
its nearly 125 year history in San Francisco and is estimated at
over three million dollars.
Leszek Lechowicz proposes to meet with both sides of the conflict
as much as would be necessary to find out details. He proposes both
sides to share the expenses 50/50 so he could be viewed as an
impartial observer. The immediate reaction from the Saint Stanislaus
Society 57 was agreement to talk to the journalist. The position of
Benevolent Society is not yet known. The contact with the journalist
is via email: panleszek(at)hotmail.com or can be obtained through PNA
daily Dziennik Zwiazkowy.
The conflict is in the appellate court, because despite the verdict
of the judge for the plaintiff Saint Stanislaus Society, the Polish
Club other organizations under the leadership of one family, are
recognizing the defendant corporation Saint Stanislaus Benevolent
Society Inc. as the rightful member of the Polish Club. In order to
avoid legal proceedings a group of people asked Leszek Lechowicz for
help. This could save the Polish community hundreds of thousands of
dollars in coming appellate procedure. Once the matters are explained
by an independent observer, the community will have knowledge to act
accordingly. So far, the community is witnessing a one sided blasting
of propaganda materials with the other side waiting patiently for the
resolution. The fact that Leszek Lechowicz is being published in the
PNA daily newspaper, should be helpful due to the strong connections
between the Benevolent Society members and the PNA. One of them
is even paid officer of PNA - Commissioner for the West Coast.
Hopefully this initiative will bring peace to the community. Lets hope
for the best and celebrate this Christmas 2005 with lots of prayers for
Polonia.

Some of us have Christmas present from the State of California. It
is actually our own money, but lost or forgotten and now under the
eye of state government. Our correspondents found already several
members of the Polish American community with money coming to them.

Dear Mr. Lewandowski,
Thank you for you e-mail and your kind words. I do read Polish
and I am aware of the issues raised in the articles you sent.
In fact Dr Tadeusz Witkowski, the editor of our publication, Periphery
is currently doing a research project on the issue of the Polish
Security Service and its involvement with American Polonia. The issue,
as significant as it might be from number of other stand points, is not
in any way central to our project of identifying all congressmen whose
districts contain more than 5% Polish Populations and
getting them to be responsive to Polish and Polish American concerns. In
fact, it could be a distraction. Most of the people we need to mobilize
in this effort to increase our Political clout, using means other than
the traditional Polonia channels, have no connection to Polish American
organizations or media. There are 10 million people who identify as
Polish Americans and only 5% of them were born in Poland. I think we
have as good a plan as any to educate and activate a significant number
of those who are part of that "sleeping giant". I send my best wishes
along with my thanks. I hope to hear from you again and if Dr Witkowski
decides to publish some of his research I will let you know.
