As you could say from my previous Newsletter I was in Poland on long
"working" vacation. Our children were attending a summer school in
Warsaw from 8 a.m. till 5 p.m. and I was able to do some activities.
Most of them were connected with my Polonia affairs and I would like
to write a separate note on that. Beside being for two days in Polish
Parliament, I met with prof. Stelmachowski, President of "Wspolnota
Polska" with whom I discussed at length Polonia issues, and some of
them communicated to Polish American Congress officials in Chicago.
I visited the Presidential Palace and I met with Undersecretary of
State in charge of international affairs Andrzej Krawczyk. http://www.president.pl/x.node?id=3042648
I also had a productive meeting with the President of the Institute
of National Remembrance. http://www.ipn.gov.pl/eng/eng_prezes.html
I was kept up to date on San Francisco Polonia affairs by several
people, who are long time subscribers to this Newsletter. I am very
greatful for their work. Please accept official "THANK YOU" from me.
You know who you are. Thank you so much.
After coming back to the Bay area I started to decipher what really
happened at the July 9, 2006, Polish American Congress Election
Meeting. This is my summary.
The meeting took place as scheduled, after beeing posponed from
June 18, which I could have attended. There were more people than
usually, I think due to the ongoing for few months discussion over
the past of two PAC officers. There was a controversy at the meeting,
who should chair the meeting. After some discussion, the assembly
voted in Mr. Zdzislaw Zakrzewski. The meeting continued smoothly
and as a result we have new PAC leaders in Northern California.

The former officers did not like the outcome of the meeting and
they are contesting the results with the Grievance Committee of
PAC in Chicago. No matter what would be the decision of the PAC
Grievance Committee one can say that this is the new beggining for
PAC in Northern California. Many people who left PAC over last 15
years are coming back and new people are signing up. I think it is
in part due to the consistent work of the new PAC President, Mr.
Zdzislaw Zakrzewski. As an example I will give his recent article
in our local "Nasza Gazetka" where he reflects on Polonia affairs:
http://www.poloniasf.org/polish/200608NG_KPA.pdf
His article is followed by a very nice appeal to all Poles to
take things in their own hands and become a member of the Polish
American Congress. Please read it as page 3 of the above link and
take into consideration to become a member of PAC. Polonia will be
in such shape as we ALL participate and share the responsibility.
It is a very important organization and can be a significant help
in promoting Poland in US, as well as serving us locally. Please
think about it, would you like Polonia to function better? If yes,
please join in. Even if you are busy and cannot volunteer for any
work, your membership will be important signal that you care. The
application is at the below link. Please mail it to Mr. Zakrzewski
at 770 Marshall Street, Redwood City, CA 94063. He will contact you
regarding recommendations. You just fill out name, address and phone:

Call 1 cent per minute from USA to Poland !!!!!!!!
PLEASE SUPPORT POLONIASF.ORG BY PURCHASING CALLING CARDS THERE http://poloniasf.pushline.com/p/?id_from_country=182&idcountry=157
We tested many calling cards which are available at http://www.PoloniaSF.org
To get them you need to click on the card picture in the upper
left corner. You will see many cards to pick from. They all deliver
superb quality, but the differences are in maintenance fees, taxes
and access numbers. Some of the cards can be used from Poland, few
can be used with a web interface, where you can connect any two
phones in the world. That way you can call from Poland to US for
just 3 cents per minute - card CONTINENTAL. There is no connection
fee on any card.
Here are other recommendations depending on your calling pattern:
CHEAP STREET - Frequent and long calls - effective rate (including
taxes and maintenance fee) 1.5 to 2.5 cents per minute
JUPITER - Infrequent calls, can call from Canada and Russia -
effective rate (no maintenance fee, including taxes
and rounding) 2.5 - 3.0 cents per minute
BIZON - Infrequent calls - can call from many countries in
Europe, but not Poland - effective rate (as above)
3.5 to 3.8 cents per minute - INCLUDING ALL TAXES!!!
The best thing is that there is no obligation to continue, no phone
hookup. You have a complete freedom in your decisions.
PoloniaSF.org receives 10% of the commission. Currently it amounts
to few dollars per month. The funds help to offset the expenses the
volunteers pay in order to run the web site. Please help by asking
your friends to purchase the calling cards at http://www.PoloniaSF.org
